Kindhearted family feeds a stray dog when no one else would, then she turns their garden into a safe and loving puppy nursery

Is there anything more wholesome than a stray dog choosing to have her puppies in your backyard garden?

Gardens are a symbol of life. They require nurturing, care, and attention, and as a result, you get new life that blossoms from the results of your energy. Blooms of flowers and hearty vegetables that grow from seeds so tiny you would never even notice them if you hadn't planted them yourself. And then, the circle of life continues as those plants fall with the winter and fertilize the soil for you to do the same thing again next spring. Gardens might be one of the most alive places in your entire house, except for maybe the kitchen!

One of the hardest things about having a garden is keeping other things out of it that might want to capitalize on the fruits of your labor without any of the work! Deer love to munch on all of those tasty greens you're growing, and we can't forget your doggos that just can't resist digging a nice hole. All of your months of hard work can be gone in a single evening, providing a scrumptious meal for a family of hungry grazers. But in today's story, we're actually happy that one animal snuck inside because they brought some new life to this garden that they nurtured themselves. For once, we didn't have to get our hands dirty to get some results!

One kind family took to feeding a stray female dog that roamed around their neighborhood. Most people don't look too kindly on stray dogs, seeing them as unpredictable and potentially dangerous, but not this family. She accepted their kindness and felt safe enough with them to do one of the most vulnerable things a female dog can do - give birth. Overnight, she found her way into their garden and gave birth to 8 healthy, adorable puppies there. 

It just goes to show that kindness and compassion lead to happy circumstances. Because of their connection, mama was able to raise all of her puppies without fear of losing them. We hope they all get adopted soon, and that the family decides to take in mama doggo for good.

  • It would be kind of crazy to assume that the family should adopt all 9 of them (8 puppies and mama dog). The good news is that puppies are probably the easiest kind of animal to get adopted (who doesn't love a free puppy?), and mama dog already feels safe and comfortable with them…. so I think the family should adopt her.

  • This comment right here is why I love the internet. A complete stranger offering to pay for these animals' spay and neutering. It's nice to be happily surprised by the kindness of people rather than the usual negativity you see online.

    Capable_Nature_644 Wild dogs will do this in cold areas. This is normal behavioral survival skills. In the wild puppy survival is very low. You can adopt them or send them off to a shelter or just let them be.

    It happened to me 3 years ago. A stray dog appeared and I took care of her giving water, food and improvised a shelter. She insisted on going inside my patio one day. I let her in and went to work. Came back home and found 4 puppies. Eventually all puppies were adopted, but the mother still with me.

    YouPresumeTooMuch The mother's food requirements are going to triple in the next 4 weeks and then taper off back to normal. If she trusts you enough to handle the pups you may be able to save some of them by supplementing their food and making sure that they find a good a to nurse from.

    Best thing you can do for them now is to feed the mom as much as she wants and try to respect her boundaries. If you get too involved it may stress her out.

    A seminferal kitten bonded to me at 3 months old so I fed her for 6 months and would let her sleep inside curled against my arm every single night before she get sassy to go outside

    One morning I woke up to a bunch of little a mews coming from the backyard. She'd given birth to 4 kittens. I fed her while she trusted me enough to have handled her kittens hours after being born.

    I got her and the kittens to the humane society and when the kittens were weaned I adopted her. I will always regret not getting one of her kittens too but my father wasn't ready for 1 cat let alone 2 (at the time)
